Only 4 weeks to go

In just a few days we will only have four weeks left till our little guy gets here. It's nerve racking not knowing when to expect it to happen. Will he get here a week early or will he be a week late? It's exciting and scary all at the same time.

It's also time we start thinking about packing and getting ready for the hospital. I don't want to seem to anxious but we should be prepared, just in case. But what to bring? I've read a lot of the baby sites so I have an idea of what we should bring. But I would like the real mom's to tell me what they used in the hospital and things that they brought that they really didn't need. Any tips would be helpful so anyone that reads this blog that has had a baby let's hear your suggestions. And if you haven't had a baby what do you think I'll need? Any tips would be helpful because at this point I still feel clueless.

  1. I brought pajamas, loose clothes to lounge in, a journal, some movies, and a book. The toiletries are essential also, but you know that. You will probably want to spend your time loving your baby and sleepping, or just resting. The time will seem to fly. It's when you get home that you need all that crazy stuff. Take at least one cute outfit for your boy. I never bothered to bring lots of clothes for my baby because she was wrapped up all the time anyway. Hope this helps.
    I'm so excited for you.

  2. HELLO!! So close!! I brought clothes for Micaela to lounge in so she wasn't in just the t-shirt (and a special outfit that you want his hospital picture taken in), and my own baby blanket for her - but you don't have to. Comfy clothes -you'll still have a belly (I didn't think it would be as big as it was), breast pads, breast cream (I used it alot), movies (your room may have a DVD or tape player - makes the time go by), and then your regular toiletries. Don't forget your CAMERA!! :)

Hope that helps...good luck and keep us posted. HUGS

  4. I second the nursing bra (make it a soft cup one, padded ones are nice for going out, but not to comfortable, they also have some good nursing tops that make it really easy to acess if breast feeding is you plan anyway! You can also bring some of that lansino stuff, my hospital gave me some with each baby. but
it's good to be prepared. that was somthing that got left behind with both kids. comfy socks for the delivery are sometimes good, just to keep your feet warm. definitly bring the camera. we brought two for Jacob's birth because with Olivia our digital camera erased all the pictures. i was so sad! make sure that you have a car seat, you probly know that. but they won't let you leave the hospital without it and you can't use one of those head rests that you buy seperatly. sometimes they;ll let you use the one that comes with the seat. it depends on who checks you out. but in place of those you can have a couple of reciveing blankets rolled up on each side of his head. and you'll want them cuz their little heads just flop around in there! If you bring PJ's make sure they aren't a light color, i don't know about the rest of you but there was some leaking. so you don't want to bring your fav. pj's. make sure there is plenty of room in the waist if they are pants. Eric brought movies to watch but i never watched anything, i was really tired. make sure that if he does bring a movie that it's not one with alot of loud bangs and screaming. Eric brought spiderman one time and it kept startleing the baby, plus i think it taught her to scream early. she was a screamer and it was really loud! : ) I think that the most important thing to is Bob, I would have hated to go through delivery the first time, or anytime with out my hubby! oh and it's fun to have a deck of cards for the labor part, at least the part that isn't hurting. Eric and i played cards this last delivery and it made the time go so much faster.

that's really exciteing! only 4 weeks! i have 6! it seems like FOREVER! : ) anyway if i think of anything else i'll let you know.

  5. My favorite thing for after delivery was some soft/warm house shoes. They were actually HUGE smiley face house shoes! HA! It was January though so unless the hospital is a little cool it may not be necessary for you.

I left 24 hours after giving birth so I didn't need a lot....you don't really have the strength to stand in the shower so make sure you bring deoderant and toothpaste.

I got to the hospital at 7:00 that morning and didn't give birth till 4:47 that afternoon because the epidural stopped my contractions. There were so many vistors though that I didn't have time to read a good book and I honestly thought I would deliver at any moment...

After delivery I just wanted to hold my little girl and sleep. That night the nurses gave me the option of them feeding the baby throughout the night or me and since I wasn't breast feeding they told me that I may want to consider resting while I had professional baby sitters before the sleepless nights began. HA! Best advice I could take because I really was exhausted more than anything after giving birth.

  6. I would bring your pillow. I didn't with my first one and then got smart after that and it really does make a difference so you can sleep good. The pillows are flat. Maybe a robe, I had one with the last and it is nice because you don't have to get dressed when company comes and you still feel covered up a little. Movies are a must because you will get bored and want to leave. I think that if there are certain snacks that you like then take them. They will give you snacks if you ask for them and they have soda machines if you drink soda. I can't really think of anything else for now. Good luck. I'm really excited for you.

  7. You're so close! The one thing that I really enjoyed having around was a my favorite candle and candle warmer. It gave me room a familiar scent and erased any "hospital smell" from the personal belongings I brought with me.

  9. I also would suggest a bra, toiletries, camera, movies, pillow, and a take home outfit. The best thing for us was our list of people who "HAD" to know we had the baby "BEFORE" we left the hospital and our cell phone. It saved a few relationships. Also, depending on which hospital you go to, Bob is going to get hungry and you can't eat, so him snacking in the room just doesn't fly well. Make sure he has cash for food, most of the cafeteria's didn't take debit when I had RJ. Good Luck. Amber
